CHP & Biomass

CHP Plant All heat and electricity will come from either combined heat and power units (CHP), or bio-mass boilers. CHPs are fuelled by waste timber from local tree surgery and have two environmental benefits. Firstly, waste timber is a biomass fuel, which means no net carbon emissions and secondly the tree waste would normally be dumped in landfill sites. CHP units will generate electricity and distribute hot water around a site via insulated pipes. They deliver heat to domestic hot water cylinders positioned centrally in every home and office that will double up as heat emitters in cold spells.

Bio-mass boiler The CHP unit is sized to generate as much electricity as will be required. At times, excess electricity will be exported to the National Grid, to be retrieved at times of peak electrical demand to supplement the CHP generation.

Bio-mass boilers are smaller, self-contained versions of CHP units that are also fed by carbon neutral bio-mass fuels.
