GROUND BREAKING SCHEME FOR ASHFORD
Planned Development of former Powergen site in Ashford

Innovative housing developer ZEDHomes today announced a distinctive and exciting proposal to transform the derelict former Powergen site on the southern edge of Ashford town centre, ahead of a planning application to be submitted shortly.

The contaminated brownfield land on Gasworks Lane, near to the town's Victoria Park, will be reinvigorated by an ambitious, visually appealing and environmentally sensitive community development with tangible benefits for the whole of Ashford. The genuinely mixed use development will consist of up to 1000 residential units, plus around 10,000m2 commercial, retail, education, and leisure space, in a location highly accessible to pedestrians and public transport. The site will also include a much needed new car park for the town centre, providing between 500 - 800 spaces.

ZEDHomes will be holding a public exhibition at the site from 22nd to 25th September, in order to demonstrate its proposals to local residents, and will consult them on all aspects of the scheme. The exhibition will be located off the Cherry Court end of Victoria Road - opening times: Thursday 10.00-7.00, Friday 8.30-7.00, Saturday/Sunday 10.00-5.00.

Inside and out, this unique and thoughtfully designed scheme raises the standards for new housing developments within Ashford. Featuring sympathetic landscaping to enhance views to and from Victoria Park, the 41,650 m2 site will provide an appealing new pedestrian access from the town centre to the park. All buildings will be constructed and finished to an extremely high standard, so that they remain attractive in the long term. The development also allows for both potential routes for the council's proposed new town centre relief road.

As a 'Low and Zero Carbon Development', the scheme is designed to minimise its impact on the local environment, and features a bio-fuelled combined heat and power plant on-site, solar panels and advanced water conservation processes, as well as other energy efficient technologies, which will be integrated into the fabric of the buildings.

While it is being built, the scheme will provide up to 250 local jobs, employing and training local workers, where possible. The scheme will support between 400-500 jobs once it is complete.
